If you own a 1977, 1978, or 1980's Honda Express moped... I am sure you have thought, "How can I make my stock express noped go FASTER!!!" 20-28 mph is great for cruising back roads, downtown small cities, or even along the beach/boardwalk. But, when you need to keep up with traffic on some busy roads or just get somewhere a little quicker... Express Honda performance modification might be what you are looking for. Also, most people don't want to spend $300 or even $150 on aftermarket performance parts. Honda moped owners just want to spend a few hours in their garage and tinker to push out 2-3 or even 10+ mph more. It can be done!
Here are some initial/standard performance tuning tips to get you started (look around this site for much more information regarding honda express performance tuning):
- Clean your express scooter carburetor (Don't forget to clean the honda express carburetor jet)
- Replace moped spark plug
- Fill tire pressure properly (see honda moped manual)
- Clean moped ignition point:
Add a little Performance Boost to your fuel (won’t boost speed, but will help engine running smoother and facilitate overall engine process).
- Change your transmission case oil (use new Royal Purple 10W-40)
- Remove your air filter (WARNING - be careful when doing this. You could overheat your engine if air is not properly regulated) Doing this will allow a leaner mix of air/fuel and give you a boost.
- Modify moped muffler (open it up... cut out some guts... weld back together) Doing this will probably provide you with the most performance boost (for no $$$). CLICK HERE FOR MUFFLER MOD HOW TO VIDEO
My next post will have detailed information on purchase aftermarket performance parts for your honda express nc50, na50, express sr, express II mopeds.

Try mopedarmy.com, ebay.com, craigslist.org, and mopedriders.org
Hello there, fantastic site by the way. Have you any info about opening up the exhaust port? I'm looking everywhere and see it mentioned but with no real details. Don't want to screw it up! Cheers.
JC - I have video of step-by-step on how to modify the muffler. I don't know if that is what you mean by opening up the exhaust port. I just need to find the time to edit/splice the video together and post! :( And, Yes! It would be smart not to screw up.
Keep checking back... I hope to post the video soon.

How do I Drain the oil out of the gear case? I have a 1982 NX50, and im a firefighter.........i need to be able to get up to about 35MPH easy, What else can i do to get faster?
Cheers JFK. I'm planning on putting on an expansion chamber, as well as a host of other stuff to try and get it to the dizzy heights of 30+mph. I read somewhere that if you open up the exhaust port on the cylinder barrel where it meets the actual exhaust then it helps. Found this vid for reference, I'm going to give it a go (I'm not touching the port on the inside). Will let you know.

Hey JFK! Did you ever make that muffler modding video? Would LOVE to see it!
@nickerachi,
Ok... since you asked nicely... I will try to make it a goal to post the video within a week's time. The video was taken between 2 different mediums and pain in butt to edit together. It totally works what I did though... I am running stock carb, 70cc DR kit, stock muffler w/ mod, everything else stock.. and pulling 38+ mph.
Check back soon and often... oh and click some ads so I can get some $$$ motivation to make it too...
